U student Trapper Roderick creates custom tailor suit company.

Bespoke Suits for a Cause

Trapper Roderick is more than just a haberdasher, student entrepreneur and (we think) the best-dressed man on campus. The University of Utah student is also proving to be a social entrepreneur as he enters a new partnership with the YWCA Utah.

All are invited to a related event and celebration on Nov. 12 to learn about his company, True Gentleman, their fall products and the new partnership. (See event details below.)

True Gentleman recently announced the partnership with YWCA Utah to help educate and involve the community. To accomplish this, the company will release limited editions of casual wear that will include a powerful message or subject emphasis to go along with highlights and unique aspect of the YWCA’s work in our community, among them domestic violence, children’s safety and young women’s leadership development. A percentage of sales from all True Gentleman YWCA casual wear will go to the YWCA to help them create more awareness and expand their programs.

“True Gentleman is not only about creating bespoke clothing tailored to style,” Roderick said. “We believe in motivating others to be the best they can be. Which is why we chose to partner with the YWCA Utah.”

True Gentleman builds bespoke clothing tailored to any style. They make the suit-buying process as convenient as possible by eliminating the typical storefront and coming directly to your home or office. True Gentleman was founded by Roderick in 2013. He received funding from the Get Seeded program provided by the Lassonde Institute. This gave him the small kickstart he needed. Roderick has been heavily involved in the Lassonde Institute as a mentor and student.

“I love helping other young entrepreneurs,” he said. “Speaking and meeting with students is rewarding. It even helps me be better at business when I teach. I’d rather them learn from my mistakes and be able to help them anyway possible rather than learning the hard way.”

Having been in business for two years, True Gentleman has grown to a national and international brand, with customers ranging from top executives, billboard music awardees and professional athletes. The team has grown to having three executives – Roderick, Chris Cahoon and Todd Cahoon – as well as a team of traveling salesmen brand ambassadors.
