Get Seeded Grants Awarded in January

Seven student startup teams received milestone grants at the Get Seeded Final Pitch Event in January 2018 at Lassonde Studios. See below for a list of teams and their product ideas. Get Seeded is a monthly milestone grant funding program open to all college students in Utah. The first step is to apply online. Fishskyn – $1,500 – Prototyping

Laptop cases come in all shapes in sizes, but none are as sleek and fashionable as Fishskyn covers. They use a vinyl covering to protect your laptop from scratches and other cosmetic damage.

Space Garden – $2,000 – Prototyping

Mason Newitt believes the future of food production is not in bigger fields, but in personal habitats for your favorite plants. He’s developing a fishtank for all your edible or recreational plants.

SecondSole – $2,000 – Product Development

Few can appreciate Fred Flintstone’s foot-braking technique like longboarders, who often scrape their shoes on the pavement to prevent uncontrollably barreling into pedestrians or other innocent bystanders. Jack Van Gemert is working on a sleek sole protector for these skateboarder’s shoes to prevent one side from wearing out faster than the other.

Bushwhack

Bushwhack Outdoors – $2,000 – Prototyping

It’s a chair! It’s a hammock! It’s a tent! No, it’s Bushwhack! This team of outdoorsy entrepreneurs is simplifying your camping checklist by consolidating the tent, chair, and hammock into one sleek, easy to use product.

Tellomee – $1,340 – Prototyping

Jerry Hansana is developing a platform for local gurus to share their unique knowledge with others by selling events or classes online. The platform is looking to expand their market into three cities: San Fransisco, Seattle and, of course, Salt Lake City!

2 Minute Classroom – $680 – Marketing

Virgil Ricks, a current MBA student at the David Eccles School of Business, is working on a series of educational biology videos. He’s amassing a following of high school students across the world, and building a new website to increase his outreach.

Luku Watches – $1,000 – Kickstarter

The snapback is making a comeback, and Luku is here to prove it. Their stylish watch options feature hip-hop inspired snapback wristbands. Check out their Kickstarter campaign coming soon.
