3 Startups Receive Get Seeded Grants in May

Three student startup teams received milestone grants at the Get Seeded Final Pitch Event in May 2018 at Lassonde Studios. See below for a list of teams and their product ideas.

Get Seeded is a monthly milestone grant funding program open to all college students in Utah. The first step is to apply online. Top teams advance to the Final Pitch Event, where they pitch to an audience that votes on who gets funded. All university students in Utah are welcome to apply for grants.

The program is managed by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah and sponsored by Zions Bank.

Ugoku – $2,000 – Provisional Patent Retainer

Sebastian Sanchez and Kyle Lemmon are in a race to bring virtual reality into gaming, and they’re making waves! Ugoku is working on a full-body VR suit that would immerse users into their games with weight, resistance, impact and temperature changes. With their working prototype that moves the bicep on a volunteer’s arm, Ugoku is working on a patent and getting themselves ready for a meeting with a large player in the entertainment industry. Keep an eye out for your chance to try their product!

DentiOps – $2,000 – Design & Assembly Improvement

DentiOps is creating a much-needed tool for dentists: a mirror that lights up without creating difficult shadows in a patient’s mouth. With their working prototype in hand, DentiOps is using this funding to improve their design and assembly process with various manufacturers. Anything that makes a trip to dentist easier is fine by us!

The Care Tree – $2,000 – Data collection

Miles Petty has a vision – to create a line of books that help us express ourselves during the most important milestones in the lives of those around us. With this funding from Get Seeded, Petty is using Google Analytics tools to understand where his products are most likely to succeed, and where his customers are looking for inspiring gifts for the ones they love most. Research has already shown that “100 percent of moms who received his book loved it, and 50 percent have cried.” Learn more at thecaretree.com.
