In rural Kenya, a child missing school because a road washes out isn’t rare, it’s a daily reality. Ruth Boiyo grew up watching her community — her closest friends and family — be cut off from hospitals, schools, and markets because of the lack of road infrastructure. She witnessed devastating consequences firsthand due to the inability to get to important places, and saw communities left isolated.
“These experiences shaped my determination to create solutions that matter,” she said. To solve this problem, Boiyo founded Kiryondis Enterprises Ltd. to improve rural infrastructure by building and maintaining roads in underserved communities.
Boiyo enrolled in the Master of Business Creation (MBC) Global program with the goal of building global networks that open doors to partnerships and opportunities beyond Kenya. Boiyo said, “I needed structured guidance, mentorship, and access to innovative business strategies. The program is the bridge between my passion and the skills I need to achieve that vision.” She said that the program offers real-world, practical learning that bridges theory and practice.
Kiryondis Enterprises Ltd. provides affordable and community-focused road construction and maintenance solutions. Currently, the company specializes in gravel and earth roadwork designed for rural areas, and maintenance services to keep roads safe and usable year-round. Kiryondis Enterprises Ltd. also partners with local stakeholders who contribute to the sustainability of these projects.
The company has completed small-scale rural roadwork that has opened the possibility of a commute to schools, hospitals, and local markets, making a real difference for families in underserved areas.
“We believe that roads are more than just pathways; they are lifelines that connect people to markets, schools, health facilities, and opportunities,” Boiyo said. This way, they are not only creating roads, but they are also saving lives.
The impact also reaches agriculture. By updating farmers’ roads, produce can be transported more efficiently, which reduces food waste and increases income opportunities for locals.
Kiryondis Enterprises Ltd. also provides more jobs to local youth and the community and teaches employees valuable career skills. “Our mission goes beyond construction,” Boiyo said. “We see roads as lifelines that unlock opportunities, drive economic growth, and transform lives.”
The company works closely with local communities to ensure solutions are practical, sustainable, and meet the locals’ needs. It is great to see the difference it makes for the communities when they have safe roads to get to important places. “While many companies target urban projects, Kiryondis Enterprises Ltd. is dedicated to rural connectivity, opening access to markets, schools, and health facilities where it matters most.” Boiyo states. On top of this, the company’s design allows roads to be cost-effective yet durable, making roads affordable for these rural areas.
“My vision is to scale beyond small community projects and become a leading force in rural infrastructure development across Kenya,” Boiyo said when thinking of the future of her company. She plans to expand nationwide, introduce innovative construction methods, empower communities, strengthen agricultural supply chains, and forge partnerships that amplify the company’s reach.
“Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that no child misses school, no mother is stranded on the way to a hospital, and no farmer loses produce because of poor roads,” Boiyo said. Her vision is becoming a reality, one road at a time.
