The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, a top-10 ranked program at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business, awarded over $350,000 in scholarships to 110 student entrepreneurs for the 2025-26 academic year. Most of the scholarships come with the opportunity to gain leadership skills and experience while managing many activities for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Find a list of scholarship recipients below. They include undergraduate to graduate students and come from many different majors across campus.
“Our students are central to our mission, overseeing programs that create opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs,” said Scott Holley, executive director of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. “As student leaders, they gain meaningful leadership experience and scholarship support. This journey empowers them to explore entrepreneurship, inspire their peers and build a strong foundation for their future careers.”
All incoming and current students at the University of Utah are welcome to apply for scholarships from the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. The priority application deadline to apply for scholarships for the 2026-27 academic year is Feb. 15, 2026. Students who miss the deadline can apply at any time, and applications will be considered when opportunities are available.
The majority of the students receiving scholarships serve as student leaders. They manage a broad variety of programs at the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, ranging from workshops and mentor sessions to a makerspace and high school outreach program.
“We take pride in being a community created for students and guided by students,” said Anne Bastien, program director at the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. “Our outstanding student leaders earn meaningful, hands-on experience running teams, budgets, and events, while participants enjoy programs delivered by peers who understand their experiences.”
Ethan McQuarrie is one of the Lassonde student leaders for the 2025-26 academic year. From Salt Lake City, McQuarrie is an entrepreneurship major and a leader for the Lassonde workshops program.
“My favorite part of being a leader in the Workshops program is the ability to meet successful alumni and grow my pool of connections,” McQuarrie said. “I have had the chance to speak with multi-million-dollar startup teams, high-level professors from prestigious universities and grow my friend group on campus through other student leaders.”
McQuarrie recommends other students explore the opportunity to become a Lassonde student leader.
“Lassonde is a community built to push students to be their best selves,” he said. “I would highly recommend Lassonde student leadership to all students on campus. It is an excellent way to take advantage of your education. I have never had such a great opportunity to grow my business and gain real world experience.”
Another student leader, Hannah Strassberg, is a quantitative analysis of markets and organizations student also from Salt Lake City. She is a student leader for the Lassonde Ambassadors program.
“My student leader role has helped me become a better communicator,” Strassberg said. “I used to be afraid of public speaking, but being an ambassador has helped me overcome that fear and learn how to share information in a concise, effective way.”
Charles Powell is a student leader for the Lassonde 400 residential program. From Broomfield, Colo., he is studying both Spanish and quantitative analysis of markets and organizations.
“In my student leadership role, I have been able to shape the direction and purpose of the role of residential advisors in Lassonde Studios,” Powell said. “We are given the resources and chances to promote collaboration in a way that is unlike any other dorm on campus. Each resource and event is an invitation to engage with others.”
The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute is an interdisciplinary division of the David Eccles School of Business. The institute provides many programs and opportunities for all students on campus to launch a company, build a product or join a team. Most programs are provided at Lassonde Studios.
