Lassonde Studios virtual tour and groundbreaking.

Lassonde Studios ‘Sneak Peek and Groundbreaking’ Oct. 10

Event will feature virtual 3D tours, prototype ‘living pods,’ student showcase, presentations and more

All are welcome to the “Sneak Peek and Groundbreaking” event for the Lassonde Studios at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at the construction site east of the Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building (215 S. Central Campus Dr., view map here). The event will feature virtual 3D tours, prototype “living pods,” student entrepreneur showcase and more.

“The Lassonde Studios will be a one-of-a-kind facility, and we want to give everyone a glimpse of what it will look like inside,” said Troy D’Ambrosio, executive director of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, which is managing the building. “Attend this event if you want to learn about this incredible project, what are students are doing and how to get involved.”

Scheduled to open in fall 2016, the Lassonde Studios will be the new home for student innovators and entrepreneurs at the University of Utah. The facility will feature 400 unique residences and a 20,000-square-foot “garage” open for all students to attend events, build prototypes and launch companies. The Lassonde Studios will be the place where any student, from any background or major, can “Live. Create. Launch.”

The “Sneak Peek and Groundbreaking” will be the first time the public will be able to see what the inside of the building will look like. Exterior renderings of the building were unveiled in April.

The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, a division of the David Eccles School of Business, is planning the project with support from many partners. The Lassonde Studios is made possible by a donation from Pierre Lassonde, the founder of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, and support from other sponsors. Revenues from residents will pay for the building.

Applications for living in the building will be accepted in 2015. Learn more about the Lassonde Studios at www.lassonde.utah.edu/studios.
