The goal of the Workshop program at the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute is to provide insightful tips and secrets to the trades taken on by entrepreneurs. We go beyond the business classroom to provide experts’ tips and experiences in everything from financial planning to HTML coding. Our hour-long seminars allow students to participate in a collaborative and interactive environment with successful entrepreneurs to hone their skills and discover new passions to better themselves and their businesses.
One of our most popular Workshops recently was led by Blake Wigdahl, vice president of design and business development at Western Architectural. Wigdahl both lectured and provided hands-on experiences for the attendees. Beginning with a Post-It note brainstorming activity and ending with a prototyping worksheet, Wigdahl led students through the thought process surrounding prototyping. He even allowed our rising entrepreneurs to stimulate creative thinking with a simple discussion and demonstration with cardboard and light patterns. Not only did students learn the terms and fundamentals behind design thinking, but they experienced it.
Lassonde strives to have programming and events that are inclusive and useful for all students, and Workshops is a perfect example of this. No matter the major or interest of a student, an individual is drawn to our events because of the positive culture around discovering new skills through hands-on experience. It is an opportunity for students to expand their skill base and receive instruction for their existing one from those who have successfully gone through the entrepreneurial journey.
