Sovegna: Redefining Recovery for Professionals

Dr. Susie Wiet, a medical doctor enrolled in the Master of Business Creation (MBC) Online program at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business, is transforming the field of recovery and mental health with her startup, Sovegna.

Based in Salt Lake City, Sovegna offers an integrated, multidisciplinary outpatient treatment program that emphasizes healing through a comprehensive approach. “At Sovegna, we believe in healing through a blend of innovative recovery medicine, integrative psychiatry, skilled therapy, restorative nutrition, and meditative movement,” Dr. Wiet said. This holistic strategy is not only designed to address addiction but also tackles the often-intertwined issues of trauma and psychiatric challenges.

Dr. Wiet’s extensive career as an addiction psychiatrist and traumatologist, spanning over 20 years, has provided her with firsthand insights into the challenges that individuals face on the path to recovery. “There is nothing more gratifying than seeing people heal and reclaim the fullness of who they are,” she said.

Her work at Sovegna is driven by the belief that recovery is not just about managing symptoms but about restoring one’s complete self, both mentally and physically. This vision is reflected in the wide range of services Sovegna provides, meticulously tailored to individual needs.

Alongside addiction medicine, specialized therapy groups at Sovegna emphasize the essential skills for forming and maintaining genuine connections, while integrative psychiatry supports overall mental health stabilization. Eye Movement Desensitizing Processing (EMDR) offers an effective approach to healing traumatic experiences, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy combines physician-directed medication with expert therapy for deeper, more lasting results.

Wellness services at Sovengna, including nutrition and meditative movement, further enhance clients’ holistic care.

What sets Sovegna apart is its focus on professionals who struggle with addiction and psychiatric issues in silence. “Professionals frequently face immense pressure, and because of stigma and time constraints, they rarely seek help until their lives begin to unravel,” Dr. Wiet said. Recognizing this gap, Sovegna’s “Recovery for Professionals” outpatient program provides long-term clinical care without requiring high-level inpatient treatment that is often out-of-state.

Sovegna not only offers a unique service within Utah but also fills a critical void in the national landscape of recovery care. Dr. Wiet’s journey to founding Sovegna was marked by her personal observations during her years in private practice. As more professionals in her practice began to exhibit serious addiction and psychiatric issues, she realized that there was an urgent need for a tailored approach to help them recover.

Her previous roles as medical director at institutions such as Odyssey House and the University of Utah Department of Psychiatry have fortified her resolve to intervene before issues escalate into life-derailing crises. “I knew the interventions that were needed to prevent progressive illness and help people restore their lives,” she said, underscoring her commitment to proactive care.

Sovegna is gearing up to launch the Brilliance Program, a new initiative designed to extend its specialized care to even more professionals in the community. Dr. Wiet is excited about the potential for growth, both within Utah and beyond, as the program paves the way for a more resilient and healthier workforce.

Dr. Wiet said her participation in the MBC program has proven invaluable. “The MBC program has equipped me with strategic insights and practical tools that I can immediately apply to my business,” she said, emphasizing how the program’s integrative and application-focused approach is directly contributing to the maturation and administrative development of Sovegna.
