A panel of judges selected 30 finalists from a pool of 126 submissions for the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge (UEC), the third and final business plan competition in the Utah Entrepreneur Series. The Series is produced by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah. Each individual or team is competing for a $40,000 cash prize offered by competition sponsor Zions Bank.
The competition draws a wide array of business ideas from diverse industries and colleges across Utah. Submissions represented everything from innovative in-flight entertainment systems (Sagebin Air) to new food storage and packing techniques (GoPack). Competitors entered ideas spanning medical devices, mobile apps, video games, non-profits, outdoor recreation and a wide variety of technologies.
For the second round of judging, the 30 finalists will submit a comprehensive business plan and a 90 second summary video. Each team will be invited to participate in financial and intellectual property forums, offered by Deloitte and Stoel Rives, respectively. The competition will culminate with presentations and a final round of judging, followed by the awarding of the grand prize at the Final Awards Banquet, on April 15, 2014 from 5:30 – 9 p.m., in the Rice-Eccles Stadium Tower.
