The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, a top-10 ranked program at the University of Utah, awarded $320,400 in scholarships to 110 students for the 2021-22 academic year. The scholarships come with the opportunity to gain leadership skills and experience while managing many activities for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Find a complete list of scholarship recipients below. They range from undergraduate to graduate students and come from many different majors across campus.
“We have an incredible group of student leaders and scholarship receipts this year,” said Anne Bastien, program director at the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. “These students are getting a great experience managing our many programs and opportunities while also receiving support for their educations. We look forward to seeing what they accomplish this year.
All incoming and current students at the University of Utah are welcome to apply for scholarships from the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. The priority application deadline to apply for scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year is Jan. 15, 2022. But students can apply at any time, and applications will be considered when opportunities are available.
Students receiving scholarships manage a broad variety of programs at the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. They range from workshops and mentor sessions to a makerspace and high school outreach program.
“Our students run all the programs and services that a young entrepreneur could need,” Bastien said. “They do everything from showing students how to use a 3-D printer to awarding our regular grants to student entrepreneurs. Not only are our students receiving scholarships, they are also receiving life-changing experiences that will help them prepare for the future.”
One of the newest scholarship opportunities at the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute is the Launch Your Imagination – Kylie B. Park Memorial Scholarship. This was awarded for the first time for the 2021-22 academic year to support arts in the Lassonde community. Another new scholarship opportunity this year is the Cameron Russell Williams Legacy Scholarship. Last year, the institute added the Erin Valenti Women in Entrepreneurship Scholarship.
Brianna Bernhardt is one of the recipients of the Launch Your Imagination – Kylie B. Park Memorial Scholarship. She is studying modern dance and is from Boise, Idaho. At Lassonde, she leads the skills program, where she hosts workshops and other activities at Lassonde Studios.
“Being a student leader at Lassonde has given me a new network of supportive peers, faculty and professionals working in their fields,” Bernhardt said. “I enjoy working in close partnerships with people dedicated to their crafts and to the success of students. Even with so many programs, Lassonde has a way of giving individualized attention to students looking for opportunities to grow.”
Daisy Hall is one of the first recipients of a Cameron Russell Williams Legacy Scholarship. She is studying communications and is from North Ogden. At Lassonde, she is a member of the Lassonde Founders program.
“Lassonde is special because the environment and energy are so inspiring,” Hall said. “The feeling you get at Lassonde makes you want to get to work and start something amazing. I love that there is an option for being able to live and create in the same spaces. There are so many resources for students to pursue what they are passionate about and embody the entrepreneurship spirit.”
The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute is an interdisciplinary division of the David Eccles School of Business. The institute provides many programs and opportunities for all students on campus to launch a company, build a product or join a team. Most programs are provided at Lassonde Studios.
