Four student startup teams received $1,781 in microgrants from the Get Seeded program in October. See below for a list of teams and their product ideas.
Get Seeded is a milestone grant funding program open to all college students in Utah. The first step is to apply online. All university students in Utah are welcome to apply for grants.
Students requesting more than $500 follow a three-step process, concluding at the Final Pitch Event, where they pitch to an audience that votes on who gets funded. Students requesting $500 or less — called microgrants — are funded after a two-step process.
The program is managed by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah and sponsored by Chad and Kristen Anselmo.

Ideal Cake Boxes (University of Utah) — $500
Ideal Cake Boxes sells attractive and functional cake boxes online. They create boxes that fit the needs of hobby bakers and professional bakes and are also attractive, sturdy, and fun. Their boxes are special because they fit modern cake sizes that have become popular during the last 2-3 years. They are planning to use their funds to create the first two diecasts (molds to cut the boxes) and boxes used in client testing.
SonoShield (University of Utah) — $500
SonoShield is an ultrasound-transparent, energy absorbent case. It fits over the head of an ultrasound probe like a phone case and is designed to remain in place during procedures, transport, and storage. The SonoShield team plans to use their funding to pursue amendments to their patent claim.
Haven Rest (University of Utah) — $450
Haven Rest provides innovative sleeping solutions for families that camp or travel. The main product is a portable baby bed that comes with a cover and packs down into a small bag for easy carrying. While designed for the consumer market, the secondary purpose of the company is to donate/give back to families living in refugee camps. Haven Rest plans to use their funds to apply for trademarks to protect their name and logo.
Mule Racks (University of Utah) — $331
Mule Racks is seeking to create a vertical mounting bike rack that can hold more than 4 bikes while costing less than $500, which is more affordable than competitor options. Mule Racks is planning to use their funding to produce fully functioning prototypes of their design.
