Three student startup teams received $4,250 in milestone grants at the monthly Get Seeded Final Pitch Event at Lassonde Studios on June 26. See below for a list of teams and their product ideas.
Get Seeded is a monthly milestone grant funding program open to all college students in Utah. The first step is to apply online. Top teams advance to the Final Pitch Event, where they pitch to an audience that votes on who gets funded. All university students in Utah are welcome to apply for grants.
The program is managed by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah and sponsored by Zions Bank.

Beacon Sleep Solutions — $1,800
Beacon Sleep Solutions is developing an app called The Dream Defender, which helps people set thresholds to wake them up for sleep disturbances they hope to avoid. This is done by the app pairing with existing smartwatches to use the device’s heart-rate monitors to give auditory and vibratory alerts once the heart-rate levels indicate a parasomnia episode occurs.
Clean Seat — $1,600
Clean Seat is a spring-loaded toilet seat that automatically returns to a default, upright position when not in use. The company believes this would greatly improve toilet seat sanitation by ensuring that the toilet seat, when untouched, would be in its upright position and no longer vulnerable to urine stains due to “bad aim.”
Rexchanger — $850
Following the models set by Airbnb and Turo, Rexchanger has created an app and website that facilitate a peer-to-peer outdoor equipment rental exchange. Cutting prices of equipment to 40 percent less than prices charged by traditional rental services, the company hopes to use its product to create a doorway to the outdoors for those who cannot ordinarily afford the luxuries associated with outdoor recreation.
