Tonnic makes health easy and enjoyable with an everyday supplement serum that aims to provide healthcare support without creating a lifestyle change.
Founder Shaelee Satterthwaite is improving and scaling the business in the Master of Business Creation (MBC) program at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business.
The Tonicc supplement supports energy and stress response and can easily be added to a person’s morning cup of coffee, tea, or smoothie.
“Our product seamlessly becomes a part of people’s everyday lives without them having to change their routines too much,” Satterthwaite said.
With help from the MBC program, Satterthwaite is continuing to expand her holistic approach to making everyday health support more accessible.
Satterthwaite first became aware of a lack of healthcare support through personal experience. Prior to starting Tonicc, she graduated from the University of Utah with an undergraduate degree in English and minors in business administration and entrepreneurship. This is where she met professor Paul Brown, an entrepreneurship professor and the director of the MBC program. He has been a huge inspiration and mentor in Satterthwaite’s entrepreneurial effort.
Having studied abroad in both Chile and Ghana with Brown’s help, she realized upon graduation that she would like to continue her education abroad. She traveled to Belgium to start a master’s degree in strategy and innovation management at the University of Hasselt but was forced to suspend school due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Separated from family and friends, Satterthwaite began to experience a decline in her mental health during this isolating lockdown. She knew she had to find a better solution than what healthcare solutions were being provided for her.
This led her to develop Tonicc, the first of what she hopes to be many wellness products that are easily adaptable to everyday routines. Tonicc works to improve energy levels while decreasing stress by supporting cellular energy production and lowering cortisol levels.
Unlike other supplements, Tonicc provides a light, smooth vanilla flavor without a chalky texture or weird aftertaste. This winning formula allows Tonicc to revitalize your mind and body without causing the added stress that a complicated wellness solution often presents.
Satterthwaite also recognizes the importance of attention to detail in product design.
“Some of the things that get in the way of building and maintaining healthy habits include forgetfulness, unwillingness to do something unpleasant, and limited time,” she said. “We wanted it to look beautiful enough to keep on a counter, acting as a visual cue for the user and allowing for our serum to integrate effortlessly into a morning routine without being forgotten.”
Since launching Tonicc, Satterthwaite has worked to successfully grow the business. She recently acquired office and warehouse space and registered with the US Food and Drug Administration. Her main goal for the future is to expand her product line to further help people tackle their daily well-being challenges.
“I hope our brand not only makes health support enjoyable and as easy as possible but also serves as a symbol for others, a reminder that brighter days are ahead,” Satterthwaite said.
Tonic is available on Tonicc’s website and can be purchased as a subscription for $51 to be refilled every 45 days or a one-time purchase option at $60. Each bottle has a standard 225 ml of product and an easy-to-use dispenser mechanism that incorporates standard measurement of the pump size for the user. Detailed instructions on proper use and tips and tricks can also be found on the website.
