Seven student startup teams received $6,100 in milestone grants at the monthly Get Seeded Final Pitch Event at Lassonde Studios on Nov. 26. See below for a list of teams and their product ideas.
Get Seeded is a monthly milestone grant funding program open to all college students in Utah. The first step is to apply online. Top teams advance to the Final Pitch Event, where they pitch to an audience that votes on who gets funded. All university students in Utah are welcome to apply for grants.
The program is managed by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah and sponsored by Zions Bank.
C.H. Caskets — $1,950
C.H. Caskets plans to bring new life to the world of caskets by introducing contemporary design to the industry. The clean lines of the design allow for additional advantages in shipping and assembly while providing consumers with an alternative to traditional caskets.
Adapted Anesthetic — $1,100
Reducing plastic waste is just one goal targeted by Adapted Anesthetic. This company is planning to make ergonomic, comfortable and adjustable face masks so that anesthesiologists can provide a more comfortable experience for patients. The design features a new kind of seal that allows medical professionals to achieve better results.
Zen Leaf — $1,000
With new legislature passing every day, CBD oils, roll-ons and tinctures are rapidly gaining momentum in the marketplace. Zen Leaf plans to offer a complete line of CBD oil infused remedies that provide relief for stress, pain, and anxiety among other health benefits. Zen Leaf’s products are affordable while also adhering to strict quality standards and high concentrations of CBD.
SignLate — $1,000
Have you ever needed to communicate in American Sign Language? Or do you want to learn ASL for fun? Be on the lookout for SignLate, a new kind of Sign Language app that will provide an advanced dictionary of words tailored for specific occupations, industries and scenarios. SignLate will deliver all this with the use of a three dimensional digital model of a hand instead of the traditional method of using actors.
On-Motor Fuel Injector Cleaning — $450
On-Motor Fuel Injector Cleaning is an alternative method for cleaning fuel injectors. The only professional method on the market includes a lengthy, expensive visit to auto shops where the engine needs to be partially disassembled to reach the part. At-home methods include liquid cleaners or pumps. These methods do not remove build up from the engine, but flush the residue into the exhaust system potentially causing more damage in the long-term.
Dustin Bitter — $500
It’s a bird, it’s a plane … no, it’s a drone! Dustin Bitter is an architectural photographer who is well established in the community for his style and process that provides clients with a high-quality finished product. His business will now be leaving the ground to explore the possibility of aerial photography through the use of a drone.
Clockwork Forge — $100 (Merit Award)
The Get Seeded team is excited to fund the team at Clockwork Forge for their hard work, persistence and coachability. Clockwork Forge is a small, startup gaming company that focus on developing two-dimensional role-playing games with a high-level of interactivity. Think Stardew Valley, but with less farming and more snow, mysterious packages and science facilities.
